REDLANDS – Fire crews doused a fire Saturday that burned a boat, a jacuzzi and gazebo.
The Fire Department responded to a call at 11:38 a.m. Monday that an apartment building had caught fire in the 1000 block of Brockton Avenue. The fire actually burned a boat in the backyard of a home and not an apartment building.
Civilians jumped into the action before the fire crews could get there.
John Tinweys lives three houses down from where the fire originated. He and a fellow neighbor grabbed garden hoses and sprayed water on the flames until fire crews arrived on the scene.
“I just saw dark smoke coming from the backyard so I ran over,” he said. “It didn’t look like anyone else was doing anything so I hopped the fence, grabbed a hose and started spraying. The boat, the bushes and the shed were all on fire.”
Because fire crews thought an apartment building could have been on fire, a total of 21 firefighters responded to the blaze
